WEEKEND GUIDE FOR MAY

May.....time to get outside and do some stuff.  A few fun things I would like to do this month:

Jurassic Gardens

• When, Where, What: Jurassic Gardens at Powell Gardens (1609 N.W. U.S. Highway 50, Kingsville, MO). Journey back to the prehistoric world when more than 20 dinosaurs and oversized ancient insects return to Powell Gardens. The exhibit is designed by Guy Darrough, Missouri’s own self-taught paleontologist and artist. May 1 - Aug. 14. Garden admission applies: $9.50/adults, $8.50/seniors and $5/children 5-12. 816.697.2600 www.powellgardens.org
• Why We LOVE It: Jurassic Gardens is fun for the whole family! Powell Gardens is one of our favorite family outings, especially with the addition of the Heartland Harvest Garden and it's an annual tradition to attend the Butterfly Festival in August. With giant dinosaurs greeting us throughout the foliage, the fun is even bigger and better than before!

Sheep Shearing Days!
• When, Where, What: May 7, Missouri Town 1855. It’s Spring and the flock of sheep at Missouri Town will be sheared of their winter coat. Fiber artists will demonstrate the complete process of shearing, washing, carding, dying, spinning, weaving and knitting. Take a step back in time and enjoy these important skills of our ancestors. Adults, $5.00; Youth 5-13 and Seniors, $3.00; Under 5, Free . 816.503.4860 www.jacksongov.org
• Why We LOVE It:When we attended Missouri Town's Sheep Shearing Day last year, my first thought was, "I wish they would rename this event....it is MUCH more than Sheep Shearing and MUCH better than the name suggests!" It is "Sheep Shearing Day" because the focus of the day is on the fiber arts (shearing, dying, spinning, and weaving wool), but the festivities included many more fun and educational activities and our only regret after three hours at Missouri Town was that we didn't have MORE time to explore the village! We can't wait to go back this year! Read our review of last year's event.

Sprint Family Fun Day
• When, Where, What: May 21 from 11am-3pmat KC Power and Light District. Enjoy a Paul Mesner Puppet Show, Mr. Stinky Feet Concert, Art Activities, Music from Around the World, and MORE! Best of all... it's all FREE!
• Why We LOVE It: Live music, puppets, art... what's not to love? Rock n' Roll the day away with the entire family with Mr. Stinky Feet... PEEEEE UUUUU!

See more fun stuff to do at KC Parent.

WEEKEND GUIDE WEDNESDAY

I really want to go see this Princess Diana Exhibit at Union Station.
Loved her....what am I saying.  Everybody loved her.  I just think it would be interesting to see all her things that she has actually touched.  I was kind of surprised that adult tickets are $23.50, but I will probably still go before the exhibit ends. Of course Diana is the big attraction right now, but there are other interesting exhibits going on there too.

I have kind of been a reading slacker lately.
I love to read, and I'm usually reading 2 to 3 books at a time.  Lately I'll pick up my book every couple weeks and read a few pages then put it down for another couple weeks.  This weekend I'd really just like to do some reading.
I have so many partially read books it is ridiculous.  I'm hoping to turn those partially read into fully read for at least 2 of those books this weekend.  Absolutely 1 of those books, shooting for 2.  The last 3 books I have on my reading list in the side bar I haven't finished.  Bad Far From Perfect Bad.  Two of which are my Hyspy Road Rage obsessed with Laurel Canyon, Hippies, and dead celebrities Sister.  Who has a growing library of other books I want to read.  BUT I've got to finish Laurel Canyon & The Hippie Trip before she will let me "check out" anymore books.
From what I've heard it is suppose to be a pretty dreary weekend anyway.  So I'll brew a pot of coffee and read, read, read.......well to the extent my crazy kiddos will allow.  It may have to be some late night (after kids are in bed) reading going on this weekend.

OH!!!
Don't forget this weekend is day light savings time.
Roll your clock forward.  ICK! Mondays after this time change always suck suck suck.

Have a lovely weekend whatever you decide to do.
Peace, Love, & Hugs

What
Get the kids up and moving for the new year. Try Zumbatomic® class at Amore Dance for Free Sunday January 2nd at noon! This class is being taught by Jessica Witt, an international presenter & trainer for Zumba® fitness international featured in several zumba videos. What is Zumbatomic® ? Zumbatomic®is a dance-fitness program designed exclusively for kids. The program is designed for kids and pre-teens ages 4-12. A typical class can include this entire age group OR be broken down into two smaller groups. The groups are Zumbatomic® Lil Starz (ages 4-7) and Zumbatomic® Big Starz (ages 8-12). How is Zumbatomic® different than Zumba®? Zumbatomic® recognizes that kids learn differently than adults. Because of this, the Zumbatomic® formula breaks down steps for its younger audience. Unlike much of basic Zumba®, there is plenty of verbal talking to walk them through the "kid friendly" steps.  Challenging moves are simplified so that kids can "get it" and feel a sense of accomplishment. Smaller kids can also learn concepts such as left, right, circle, parallel lines etc. To keep in fun, Zumbatomic®  incorporates games so they want to keep coming back!

LARRY THE CABLE GUY

saturday

If you're looking for a romantic Saturday night out, definitely do not buy tickets to see Larry the Cable Guy. The redneck comedian, real name Daniel Lawrence Whitney, is best known for making fart jokes, talking about how horny he is, and slinging barbs at Obama. Oh yeah, he says "Git-r-done" a lot, too. But hey, if that tickles your funny bone, you might want to fork over the $53.50-$64 a ticket and head over to the Independence Events Center, 19100 E. Valley View Parkway in Independence, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Who needs romance when you've got a night of excellent people-watching and pee-your-pants funny fart jokes, anyway?

SUNDAY

CHIEFS VS. BRONCOS

sunday
We want a do-over. Two weeks ago, the Broncos stampeded the Chiefs 49-29 in Denver, trampling hopes that the Chiefs were becoming one of the NFL's best turnaround teams. The loss was a tough one — especially for coach Todd Haley, who afterward refused to shake the hand of Broncos coach Josh McDaniels (the moment in question is pictured above). But things have turned around since then: The Chiefs won their last two games and currently hold first place in the AFC West. Tune to CBS at noon Sunday or buy tickets ($30-$265 at ticketmaster.com) to watch the rematch firsthand at Arrowhead Stadium.
